While Miami was less of a foodie destination for me than New York, I’d say I came out with some pretty good meals under my belt. And yes, I ate more than Cuban pastries and sandwiches… though if my diet subsisted solely of that not a complaint would be heard.
I will say that dining in Miami on a budget presented challenges- especially since we stayed in a hotel, forcing us to eat out just about every meal. There’s a lot of restaurants that are hyped and the price tags reflect it. No surprise, since many of them seemed like nyc transplants, honestly.
The reviews for those places though… not mind blowing by any means. Then the ones that ARE well reviewed? I’m sorry, but I grew up on my Nonna’s food, I am not about to pay almost $40cad for bolognese. She would stroke out.
Anywaaaays, all that to say- some more effort than usual felt necessary here, but we came out on top!! Let’s break down my top bites- in order.
6. Customizable Bowls - Fresh Kitchen
A fun full on day in Miami should include a morning/early afternoon staring at murals in Wynwood (I’m not super in to street art but this place is next level) and then heading to the design district to walk on a nice strip with bougie shops.
You will get hungry along the way. As much as this blog may seem contrary to this, I in fact, DO value my health. So, I was hoping for a nice, healthy lunch that had some veg. Everyone and their dog seems to go to Pure Vida, but I was seeking something a little more ~budget friendly~.
I discovered Fresh Kitchen, which is located in Midtown, situated perfectly between the two areas. Here, they serve customizable bowls of food, kind of like Cava. You choose your bases, vegetables to top, and a protein. Depending on what size you get, you can either choose one protein and one veg or two of each. Now, I know what you’re thinking. I have actually eaten a number of these healthy bowl spots lately, and I would never consider them “top bite worthy”… but, this place? It’s different.
